In this study we investigated the value of flotation Restricted Environmental Stimulation Therapy (REST) as a stress-management tool. We focused on the physiological effects of REST, its influence on well-being, and on performance.

Twenty-seven studies published in 25 articles or book chapters were included in a meta-analysis. Note. flotation-REST = flotation-Restricted Environmental Stimulation Technique, RCT = Randomized Controlled Trial, NR = Not Reported, SOL = Sleep Onset Latency, VAS = Visual Analogue Scale.

Flotation-REST sessions were of 45 min duration in all : Anette Kjellgren, Annika Norell-Clarke, Annika Norell-Clarke, Kristoffer Jonsson, Maria Tillfors.

Abstract. This study examined the effect of light on relaxation associated with flotation restricted environmental stimulation therapy (REST), as measured by plasma Cortisol, mean arterial pressure, and psychometric by: 1. Flotation restricted environmental stimulation technique (REST) involves compromising senses of sound, sight, and touch by creating a quiet dark environment.

A therapeutic session in a flotation tank typically lasts an hour. For the first forty minutes it is reportedly possible to experience itching in various parts of the body (a phenomenon also reported to be common during the early stages of meditation).

Flotation Restricted Environmental Stimulation Therapy (REST) This procedure involves removing all sensory input from the brain to induce a state of calm.

The two most frequently used REST methods are chamber REST, which involves the participant lying on a bed in a dark, soundproof room; and flotation REST, which involves floating in salt water.

The dismal quarters caused Hutchison to consider his near-death experiences with newfound urgency. He realized he needed to stop trying to control his life, an insight he credited to meditation, which he studied for many years before his accident.

This technique is commonly used in meditation, as it allows easier access to deeper meditative states. As you are probably thinking, it can be very difficult to get total sensory deprivation in today’s world.

And that is where a sensory deprivation tank, or a float tank, comes into play. Get some REST: Float Therapy for the Mind and Body It’s common knowledge that most people don’t get enough rest. What’s less commonly known, however, is that most people could also benefit from a little more REST, or Restricted Environment Stimulation Therapy.

It’s a developing technique that’s based on depriving the body of stimulation.
